Keep Our Walkways Safe: Snow & Ice Removal Reminders!

As the snow begins to fall in Waupaca, please remember your responsibility for keeping our community’s sidewalks safe and accessible for everyone.

❄️ The 24-Hour Rule: Residents and property owners must clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours after any snowfall.

❄️ Ice Control is Key: Don’t forget to apply a material (like sand, salt, or a mixture) to reduce the risk of slips and falls on icy patches.

❄️ Where Does the Snow Go?: Snow removed from your sidewalk or driveway must not be shoveled onto city roadways or neighboring properties.

❄️ Rental Property Note: Landlords and tenants should clearly define who is responsible for snow removal in their rental agreement.

❄️ Code Compliance: Failure to clear your sidewalk is considered a public nuisance. If City staff must remove ice or snow, the cost will be charged to the property owner.

❄️ If there is a fire hydrant near your home, do your part to keep it accessible this winter: Remove snow and ice; Clear a wide enough perimeter around the hydrant for water staff and firefighters to work (about 3 feet); Clear a path from the hydrant to the street

Let’s work together! Please be diligent, and if you have a neighbor who needs a hand, consider lending your support.
