Do you have a NOAA Weather/All Hazards Radio ?

Weather radios are “smoke detectors for danger.” A NOAA Weather Radio with an alarm and battery back-up is one of the best ways to protect your family, especially at night when the alarm feature can wake you up during severe weather and give you and your family time to seek appropriate shelter. If there is no severe weather or emergency your radio can be switched to a silent, stand-by mode.

Outdoor Warning Sirens

There are 3 “OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS” located throughout the City of Waupaca. The Outdoor sirens will be activated when a tornado warning or a chemical emergency occurs.  They can also be activated for other emergencies. The sirens are called outdoor warning sirens because their primary purpose is to alert people who are outside and not designed to provide notification inside of your home or business.

If you hear an outdoor warning siren you should seek shelter inside immediately. Once inside, you should turn on a television or radio to learn further information. Local officials will be disseminating information about the emergency through these outlets

The outdoor warning sirens are tested on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. to ensure they are working properly. The sirens produce a loud wail sound.

StormReady

Storm Ready Community

The City of Wauapca is a StormReady Community. StormReady, a program started in 1999 in Tulsa, OK, helps arm America’s communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property–before and during the event. StormReady helps community leaders and emergency managers strengthen local safety programs.

StormReady communities are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education and awareness. No community is storm proof, but StormReady can help communities save lives.
