For the first installment of Ask the Administrator, I’d like to answer a question that has been raised over the last few months: What is happening with Fulton Street?

The City is currently in the planning and design phase for the Fulton Street project, which spans from Hillcrest Drive to Main Street. The project is approximately 30% designed, and staff is working closely with our engineering partners to refine the details before final plans are completed.
The work will occur in two primary segments:
- Hillcrest Drive to Harrison Street: This portion is anticipated to be a road surfacing project intended to address the immediate roadway needs with a lower construction impact. This portion of roadway falls under ST HWY 49, which in discussion with DOT, is working on plans for reconstruction in the future.
- Harrison Street to Main Street: This segment will be a full reconstruction, including utility reconstruction and new pavement.
Utility reconstruction is planned as part of the Harrison Street to Main Street segment.
The total project cost is estimated at approximately $4 million. About half of that cost is funded through the Local Roads Improvement Program (LRIP), which is a 50/50 cost-share grant with the State. The remaining portion, including some improvements outside the LRIP scope, will be funded by the City.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 and conclude in late fall 2027. Prior to construction, there will be additional Public Informational Meetings (PIMs) to share updates, review design concepts, and gather community input.
As always, we’ll continue to keep residents informed as the project progresses and more details are finalized.
